UK Cards
Remember when applying for credit cards to check the following
1. Interest Rates
2. VISA or mastercard
3. Is 0% transfer available
4. Check APR
APR stands for the Annual Percentage Rate of charge. You can use it to compare different credit and loan offers. The APR takes into account not just the interest on the loan but also other charges you have to pay, for example, any arrangement fee.
Possibly the most important things to check are the things you are not told by the company you are applying to and to read and try to understand the small print on credit card applications

Cards can provide an easy way to get short term credit for free if you pay off the amount you owe monthly.
They can be a convenient and efficient way to pay for goods if the alternative is carrying large amount of cash around with you.
Payment is guaranteed by the card company which allows you to order goods over the telephone or over the Internet as well as purchase goods in shops and stores.
The card issuer must reimburse you if your card or card details are fraudulently misused when buying at a distance (for example, over the internet, by phone or mail order) within the European Economic Area (EEA).
If you do not receive the goods or services you ordered, then you may be able to claim the money you have spent from the card company.
Some card providers give special discounted offers or loyalty points to card holders.
Some store card companies give up to 20% off the first purchase you make with a new card. You should check conditions that may apply, even though reading the small print may not be easy in the middle of a busy shop.
What are the risks of using cards?
The greatest risk in using a credit card is to run up debts that you cannot afford to pay.
If you can only afford to pay the minimum amount each month this is an extremely expensive way to borrow money.
If you don’t make the minimum payments the card provider can demand that the outstanding balance is paid immediately and take you to court if you cannot pay.
There may be important details in the small print which you need to read and understand when you apply for a card. It is easy to overlook these.
If you lose your cards or they are stolen then you may be liable for costs if others use your cards illegally, but the maximum loss is usually limited to £50.
